If you follow the Minnesota Vikings football team you have heard about the recent medical emergencies that have plagued Coach Zimmer. For those of you that don’t follow the Vikings, Coach Zimmer recently needed surgery to repair a detached retina in his right eye.
Did you know that CPC supplies products to customers that manufacture equipment used to perform this type of surgery? Vitreoretinal surgery is the technique used to repair a detached retina. For this surgery either silicon oil or a bubble of gas is used to hold the retina in place while laser photocoagulation attaches the retina by sealing the blood vessels.
CPC products are used on the vacuum and tubing lines that control the scissor and suction devices used during this type of surgery. Not only do the connectors provide a consistent, reliable seal they also provide a way to ensure approved OEM hand pieces are being used. CPC’s patented RFID connector solutions allow the hand piece to be “read” and confirmed to be authentic. When authentic hand pieces are used it’s possible to increase the “cut rate” of the device, thus shortening the amount of time required for the surgery. When the time in surgery is reduced the chances of infection or complications during surgery is also reduced. This can result in faster recovery times after eye surgery.
