Medical Design Technology published an article “Connection Selection: Identifying Fluid Connector Options.” That article addressed the variety of choices between fittings, luers and couplings and suggests which connection type is best for specific uses. MD&DI published an article that specifically talks about medical misconnection and changes in the market relative to this issue titled “Unraveling Misconnections in Medical Tubing”.
To help prevent serious medical misconnections and give design engineers connector options, CPC offers a wide variety of small bore connectors. These connectors are designed for use with 1/16″ to 3/16″ inside diameter (ID) tubing.

SMC
Series twist-to-connect couplings provide a reliable and more secure alternative to luer-type connections. The SMC also allows for the tubing to rotate freely when connected. This important feature prevents both kinked tubing and accidental disconnection during use. Available in acetal, polypropylene and polycarbonate, the SMC product line provides a variety of different configurations and cannot be misconnected to luer fittings.
For some applications, luer fittings are still a small bore connector option. CPC’s luer fittings are suitable for small flow applications, typically less than 1/4" and feature parting line-free hose barbs. They mate with luers manufactured to ISO Standards 594-1 and 594-2.
